Yes, you can register a limited company by yourself through Companies House. The registration process involves submitting the necessary paperwork and company details to Companies House and paying a small fee.

While the process is usually straightforward, it can be complex, and that’s why many new businesses choose to use our formation services to register their business. We provide a streamlined, hassle-free registration process and offer support and guidance during and after registering your company.

How much does it cost to set up a limited company in the UK?

The cost to set up a limited company in the UK can vary depending on the level of service you require. At its simplest, the Companies House charges a £12 filing fee for the incorporation of your company.

If you choose to use our services to help with the process, packages start at £12.99 and go higher depending on the additional services you choose.

What are the steps to registering a limited company?

The steps for registering a limited company can vary, but the basic steps include the following:

  • Choosing a unique company name.
  • Providing a company address.
  • Naming at least one director and one shareholder.
  • Defining and allocating shares.
  • Drafting a "memorandum and articles of association" which are legal statements documenting the company’s structure.

How much can I pay myself as a limited company?

As the director of a limited company, you can pay yourself a salary, dividends or a combination of both. The amount you pay yourself can vary, but most directors optimise their pay for tax purposes.

Directors usually take a minimal salary to maintain their National Insurance (NI) contributions and then supplement their salary with dividends.

We’d recommend speaking with an accountant about the most tax-efficient way to pay yourself. As part of the all-inclusive package, we’ll set you up with a free consultation with an accountant.

How much tax will I pay as a limited company?

The amount of tax you’ll pay as a limited company will depend on your business’s profit. Currently, the Corporation Tax rate in the UK is 25% for most businesses and 19% for companies earning less than £50,000.

As the company’s director, you will also pay tax on any dividends. We’d recommend speaking to an accountant early in your company’s journey to fully understand your tax obligations.
